Continuous evidence. Defensible decisions.
Continuous monitoring data turned into engineer-grade
reports asset owners can defend.
Three layers, working as one
Structivate provides the intelligence layer that sits on top of continuous corrosion monitoring data, and turns it into engineer-grade decisions. Three layers work together to make this defensible.
Intelligence layer
The system Structivate built. Degradation models grounded in machine learning and corrosion-science domain knowledge, calibrated against measured signals, with explicit uncertainty bounds.
The intelligence layer is the core of what Structivate provides. Sensors are inputs; reports are outputs. The platform can ingest external monitoring data alongside SM:ART’s, the value isn’t tied to any particular hardware deployment.
Continuous sensing
Retrofitted sensors capture corrosion potential, concrete resistivity, environmental conditions, and structural behaviour (vibration/tilt), continuously rather than at periodic snapshots. Sensors are deployed in the critical zones where corrosion takes hold: half-joints, or other critical structural members.
Engineer-grade reporting
Outputs designed for the engineer who has to defend the call. Monthly, or a defined cadence, automated reports during deployment.
Reports synthesise the intelligence layer’s outputs into engineer-readable conclusions with uncertainty bounds. Conclusions, not data dumps. Designed to integrate with existing assessment workflows, to support decision-making, not to replace it.
What we measure, and what we model
Measured
Directly captured by the sensors.
- Corrosion potential
- Concrete resistivity
- Environmental conditions (moisture, temperature)
- Structural behaviour (vibration/tilt)
Modelled
Inferred or forecast from measured signals.
- Corrosion rate
- Section loss
- Chloride risk
- Deterioration progression
Honesty matters in decisions of this consequence. Models are only as defensible as the data behind them, that’s why we publish both.
SM:ART, the system we built to deliver this
SM:ART grew from seven years of doctoral research by Structivate’s founder, Dr Sean Bond, completed at TU Dublin in 2022. Two years of asset-owner discovery followed, refining the research into the specific decision-intelligence need. Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund support from 2024 turned that work into a deployable system, now in active SM:ART Trials with Transport Scotland and the Department for Infrastructure NI.
Sensors are retrofitted in critical zones, such as half-joints, capturing corrosion potential, concrete resistivity, and environmental conditions. Where structural behaviour is informative, structural sensors deploy alongside. The data pipeline runs from edge to cloud over a secure, authenticated channel.
The customer receives Raw Sensor Data via SFTP/HTTPS for integration into in-house workflows, and view-only Predictions and Reports as monthly engineer-grade summaries.
Built to strengthen, not replace, engineering judgement
The asset owner, or the engineering consultant engaged on the asset, makes the repair, replace, or extend call. Structivate provides the evidence base; the engineer provides the judgement. Predictions and reports are explicitly probabilistic indicators that support engineering judgement, not substitutes for it.
Continuous monitoring data feeds into existing inspection and assessment workflows, not replacing them. The inspection regime continues. General Inspections continue. Principal Inspections continue. Continuous monitoring fills the gap between them. Asset owners receive Raw Sensor Data they can share with their own engineering teams under the trial’s licence terms.
For asset owners who engage external engineering consultants on major decisions, Structivate’s data flows under appropriate confidentiality arrangements to the consulting partners engaged on the trial structures. The framework recognises and accommodates standard consulting-engineering relationships.
This isn’t a constraint. It’s the architecture. Decision intelligence works because the engineer remains accountable.
Foresight to act when the data says so, not when the budget fails.
Have a structure in mind?
Structivate is selecting candidate structures for FY26 SM:ART Trials. If you're considering an end-of-life decision on a reinforced concrete asset, we'd like to hear about it.
